An Abundance of Opportunity

Aggrey is a security guard who works the night shift at the compound where we live. I have gotten to know him over the last several months. After one of my trips teaching in the village for a week, Aggrey asked me why I would spend a week there. This began a series of conversations.

Mukashire Baptist Church giving Lew a shuka (a traditional Maasai blanket)

Through these conversations, I discovered Aggrey is a pastor himself. Over time I have realized he is solid in his beliefs. He eventually shared he has never been trained. But he would like to be. Could I help him? Of course! But how would this work?

After some time talking and working on a solution, we found a partner organization working in his area of the city. Aggrey is going to attend their training and I have been invited to help them teach some of the classes too. I am excited about this opportunity. It will allow me to engage with and get to know pastors in Nairobi.

Discipleship opportunities are abundant if we will look for them.

Students at Ahero Teaching Site.

25 Students Finished the Certificate Course

As 2022 comes to a close we are thankful for a productive year. After returning to Nairobi and getting settled back in, we were able to continue with our pastor and leader training.

Two sites have completed the certificate course this year! Ilmamen and Matapato have 25 men and women who completed all 8 courses. We will have a graduation celebration in the coming months for all of these students.

Additionally, there are a few students who have almost finished. They missed a class or two and once they make those up, they too will graduate.

We also assisted twice with another certificate class consisting of 30 students at a place called Ahero. We have been blessed with opportunities to teach and train leaders.

Bible Teaching and Training in the Coming Year

Opportunities abound for teaching and training in Kenya. Many are looking to further their understanding and need Theological Education. We cannot accept every opportunity, but we will have plenty of work in the coming year.

Beginning in January Lew will be teaching at Africa International University for 12 weeks. His class, African Traditional Societies and Christianity will be 12 weeks to engage with students from various backgrounds, tribes, and nationalities. It will be an exciting time to dig into the bible with the students.

We also plan to continue working with some of the Maasai leaders we have been able to train and help through the food distribution. As a result of training and assisting during the drought, many have asked for continued teachings for themselves and the members of their churches. Lew will have the opportunity to preach at several churches and to help the churches make disciples.

We will also continue teaching with the IMB Theological Education team who we have partnered with for the last two years. They have several new locations they want to begin teaching at as well as ongoing teaching at some of the current locations.
